Since many other beginner books are written specifically for one path, this book will help you save time and money on purchasing books or tools that are not towards what you are truly interested in.I instruct all my new students to read this book first to get a better understanding of the broad strokes regarding everything.
Carl McColman states in the beginning of this book that he is introducing the reader to Wicca, Druidry, and shamanism. He skillfilly delivers on his promise with a clear introduction to the most prominent forms of Paganism. This book would help in gaining direction into which path is for you.It is not Pagan 101 or a spell book. If you are looking for a quick magical fix for a problem, you won't find it here. This book is for someone who knows absolutely nothing or very little about Paganism. For that reason, I think this would be a good book for a Pagan to give an open-minded friend or loved one who is concerned about their beliefs.He introduces the beginner to concepts such as the wheel of the year, magic, and reincarnation. He has a friendly, easy-to-read writing style.I rated it four stars instead of five because I felt the entire work was too heavily influenced by Wiccan belief such as the Rede and the God being the consort of the Goddess even when he wasn't specifically speaking of Wicca.
Excellent beginner's guide to paganism. It gives a very good overview of the many types of paganism and does it in a very humorous and approachable way. For anyone interested in this spirituality I would highly recommend it.
I'm almost certain that I selected the type of used book that was in the best condition possible (good as new or something like it)Well, the pages are yellowish and the book itself smells weird. So, the condition was not as the one described in the box...but whatever I got it.
I have been reading up on Paganism for the last six months and was afraid I would either go backwards or "do over" with an "Idiots Guide" but this book was great.Never boring, always informative and an easy read with but not overwhelming with information. Yes it did give out the same information at times, but also hadother information too, and I liked the layout of the book and how everything waspresented. I took my time and feel I more than got my money's worth. I wouldsuggest this book to anyone who is looking for information on Paganism.
This is a surprisingly good introduction to many pagan tenants. However, it's rather a condensed version, so there is not much depth in any particular subject. A good primer, and one I'll give Mom so she understands more about my path.
Great book.
I guess for the total new person to modern day paganism it might be ok...but I found it to be poorly written and there are much better books out there for a new person to read to learn more. I only read it because for ADF it is on the reading list for a book report.
